Frequently
Asked
Questions
Frequently
Asked
Questions
How do I apply?
Click Request Invite, pay the small (refundable) application fee, fill in your form, and if shortlisted, you’ll be invited for a 20-min interview. Only around 15% reach this stage—so take your time with the form.
What do you look for in a writer?
You don’t need to be polished—just passionate. If you’ve been writing consistently (stories, scenes, essays, screenplays, even drafts you haven’t finished), you’re who we’re looking for.
Is the application fee refundable?
Yes, if we’re unable to offer you a seat this time, we’ll refund it.
Why go away to write?
Because writing needs quiet. Six days in a beautiful, peaceful place with no chores, no noise, just you and your words—it changes everything.
How many mentors will there be?
Usually 3 mentors for a full cohort (20 writers), and 2 mentors if we keep it smaller. They run workshops, one-on-one feedback sessions, and help you shape your work in real time.
What does a day at Forge look like?
Morning: Learning craft workshop, feedback session, or writing exercise Afternoon: Quiet writing time (phones off, deep focus) Evening: One-on-one mentor sessions or group reflections.
What support do I get after the retreat?
You’ll join our lifelong writing community. We host critique circles, co-writing sprints, and share paid writing/editing gigs regularly. *What’s the deal with IndiePress & Westland?* The top 2 writers from each retreat get their books published by IndiePress—print and digital, fully funded. Both IndiePress and Westland also run live sessions on how publishing works, what editors look for, and how to pitch. All writers also get access to discounted ISBNs, cover design, and self-publishing support if they want it.
What does the fee cover?
• Your stay (shared room - double occupancy), all meals, and yes, unlimited coffee • Daily workshops, writing exercises, and mentor feedback • Two sessions online on publishing • Writing toolkit templates • Lifetime access to our community (Travel to the venue isn’t included)
Can I pay in parts?
Yes! Pay ₹15K to confirm your seat. The rest can be paid over 3 months (via LevelUp) or 6 months (no-cost EMI via credit card or HDFC debit card). You just need to finish payments 30 days before the retreat.
What will I create by the end?
That depends on your path: Book writers: A polished short story or essay, OR your opening & closing chapters + logline Screenwriters: A short film script (15 mins) OR a full treatment for a feature/web series Every writer leaves with something substantial—often, the best draft they’ve written yet.
What are my chances of getting published?
Top drafts get pitched directly to IndiePress. Westland editors also review Forge alumni work every few months—several of our writers are now under review or signed.

What will I create by the end?
That depends on your path: Book writers: A polished short story or essay, OR your opening & closing chapters + logline Screenwriters: A short film script (15 mins) OR a full treatment for a feature/web series Every writer leaves with something substantial—often, the best draft they’ve written yet.
What are my chances of getting published?
Top drafts get pitched directly to IndiePress. Westland editors also review Forge alumni work every few months—several of our writers are now under review or signed.
